Link: Oil paint

Random link of the day:  How to judge oil paint quality, from winsor & newton
(yes, they're probably biased, but it looks like good info regardless.)  All you ever wanted to know about the properties of oil paints.

Resuscitation

So to kick off posting here again, here's a new link:

songs you taught me

A photography blog, but not so much about photography as about recording little interesting bits of life through pictures.  Simple, but really great stuff, and down to earth.

Hopefully more interesting links to come, not sure yet if I'll continue with this blog and revamp it or start a new one, but there will be something :)

Sketches 5-something-10

Don't know when exactly these are from, but didn't post them before, so I'm going to.  Not like anyone reads this, but oh well.  At least I feel like I did something remotely useful.

Sketchtacular

abstract.  Thoughts would be welcome, if anyone ever reads this.  What does it remind you of? Any feeling to it?

More unfinished crap

Woot.  Well I love the song anyway, Once Upon a December from Anastasia. It has been ages since I've actually drawn horses much.  Will probably come back to it, mostly posting just to prove to myself I actually did something, even if it's of a sub-sketch level of quality.

Also this from a while back, hadn't posted it.  Seeing how bright of a red I could get, then what it reminded me of.

And some abstract sketchiness, based on snowy mountains and nifty underwater-looking clouds.

More Sketching

Will definitely be revisiting this one, methinks.  I like the colors.  It was originally gonna be a landscape but the skintones came out really neat over top.

Sketchoriffic

Yeah, I should probably be shot for making a title like that.  More photoshop sketchiness.  Yay for vaguely inconsistent light sources.

Sketch of the day

Randomness.  Listening to Ludovico Einaudi, freaking awesome music, and mellow enough to be in the background without being distracting.

Final Project

Starting with the environment sketches from the last project.  I built on these and widened the theme a little bit, moving on to the human society that inhabits this world as well as a bit of the local flora and fauna.

Aja actually showed me this site during the last critique, this guy's art is amazing!  And I am really jealous of his website.  I wish my ideas were that awesome :P  Anyway.  On to the good stuff!  I suggest you check it out on his site though, to see the full versions and the background and all that.  And make sure your monitor isn't too dark or contrasty, or you'll miss out on a lot of great detail and texture. I really like how he gets some of these lighting effects, if it's mixed painting and photography or what I'm not exactly sure, but it looks really interesting, especially the iridescent dreamlike quality a lot of it has.

Some other interesting artists I'll write about later, check it out if you happen to find this.

Sketch - Flowers

Interesting flowers on these trees around campus.  No reference so it probably looks nothing like them really, but oh well.  I liked the color scheme.  Could use more contrast though.  Might pick it back up later, might not.

Edit: since I can't just complain without trying to do something, tried livening up the flowers a little.  Meh.

Resource: Illustration Friday

Love this site! :) Every Friday they come up with a new theme to illusrate, along with a little quote for inspiration. I get their emails every week, they also have a facebook group, and they don't spam. Definitely made of awesome.

Gossamer: Key images

ifted through the ridiculous amount of stuff I saved to find the pictures that best catch the atmosphere I'm trying to get, with elements that will be included in the world concept.  If that made any sense at all.  Whatever, I'll update later when I can actually communicate.  Pictures are the important part.
